Over the last five years I have sourced 15 broodmares in conjunction with my brother Gordon in order to breed horses for the Asian market. Our intention is to develop some black type fillies who will be capable of leaving progeny which will excel in the sales arena and on the track. Having arranged the importation of 
stallions such as My Halo, Thano, Eltawaasul, Chagall and Stay Tuned since 2001, then relocated Danske to the South Island we now have easy access to some very good Sires. We have also utilised Sires such as St Reims, Royal Gem and Gold Mine in the North Island recently due to the fact they complement particular mares within our broodmare band.
My Agency is mainly based on selecting race prospects to go to Singapore, Macau, Hong Kong, Australia and the United States. I import stallions occasionally, when and only when I find something which will suit the local broodmare population. Thano (G1 winner by Southern Halo) is the latest import and he has served 65 mares in his first season at Grangewilliam Stud near Wanganui with 62 tested positive. An area I find interesting is sourcing lease prospects for southern owners and trainers from around New Zealand. Examples being South Island filly of the Year Grace Park for Steve Anderton, Starkay for Michael Pitman, Envy Me for Shane Marr, Duch for Terri Rae and just recently Maravilloso for Kelvin Hampton. Valuing stock is now part of my business and I regularly attend NZ Sales to act on behalf of various buyers from New Zealand and overseas. Over the last 12 months I have been involved in the selection and management of a large number of horses for an investment group based in Singapore which has been a very interesting project.
